Another long term goal that we have is to develop a Christian Community Center. The purpose of this center is to develop contact with the community that otherwise would not be possible. Through education, job training, family counseling, and clinic work we will be able to build trust in the community by fulfilling physical needs. Another facet of this center will be to equip local believers for ministry. If a local pastor has a third grade reading level, perhaps we can help enhance his understanding of scripture by reaching an eighth grade reading level.

Our ultimate goal is church planting; seeing men and women’s lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and growing steadily in fellowship with one another. This goal will be achieved primarily through relationships and Bible studies. As national believers grow in their faith, they will begin to take an active part in leading and equipping other believers. Once the work has begun, we pray that the Lord will bless this work and a fully national led congregation will be established within six years.

My name is Ken (Kenny) Hanna.  I was born into a Christian home and was raised in Mexico as my parents were missionaries.  I came to know Jesus at the age of seven, and grew up following the morals and guidelines that my parents set forth based on Biblical truth.  As a child, my faith did grow, but I lived most of my life under the shadow of my parents’ faith.  It is easy to know all the “right” answers but not really believe them.  In my high school years, I went through a time of rebellion, but eventually came back to the Lord and to my parents.  I decided to take my faith seriously and wanted to be involved in ministry.  I chose to study at Moody Bible Institute for a good Bible education and the training in Linguistics; my desire was to be a translator, but after two years in the program I realized that I should study further in Bible and Theology in preparation for different ministry.  I began leading small group mission trips to Mexico and realized that I still had a great desire to serve the Lord in that country!  Through Mark Livengood, a friend from Moody, I was introduced to a ministry in Cd. Juarez and slowly softened my heart to working in the Borderland area.  After graduating from school, I simply began life in Chicago, working and taking trips to Cd. Juarez as often as possible.  Finally, the Lord impressed on my heart the need to move there and work in a different capacity.

As a result of this change, I began to know Esmeralda LaLuz also a Moody graduate, who also had a great interest in missions.  Esmeralda was raised in Chicago, IL in a Catholic family, but as a result of her dad seeking truth, fulfillment and purpose in life they, as a family, came to know the Lord at an outreach service.  Esmeralda has now been a born again believer for 11 years and has been serving faithfully in ministry.  Esmeralda came to know of the ministry in Cd. Juarez through Mark Livengood and became involved with the work.  As our relationship developed, we began to realize a desire to be involved in mission work, but specifically involved in Cd. Juarez.

After marriage, God brought us to Ohio where I am presently serving as the Youth Pastor at Leroy Community Chapel (www.leroychapel.org).  The two years that we have been serving here have been an invaluable time of preparation and education for ministry and for our marriage.  God has truly blessed us with a great place to start!!

These past two years have been spent in preparation and planning for the ministry in Mexico.  Together with Mark Livengood, we have developed a model and a timeline for what we hope to achieve.  We have settled on calling this ministry “Onnemi International Ministries”.  Onnemi is an Indian word meaning “he lives”, this is the essence of why we hope to serve in this way.  Because “he lives”, we have life and hope to share that life with the people in Cd. Juarez!
